Sioni 8, Tbilisi, Georgia
The building of the museum used to be a karvasala once. This one, as well as the majority of karvasalas in the first half of 19th century belonged to an Armenian. Its owner was publicist, publisher Grigor Artsruni. He was widely known for his intense activity as the chief editor of “Mshak” daily. It was the first Armenian newspaper in Tiflis to have so many subscribers.
The building of the karvasala has seen many changes, and now every part of the building belongs to a different historical period. There are cellars build in 15th century. The facade on Sioni Street was restored in 1912. That was when the rod of Hermes, the patron of merchants appeared on the wall of the karvasala.
