The school was founded in 1934 and is situated in a small north-eastern suburb of Beirut called Bourj Hammond where a great part of the population are Armenians who escaped from Osmania Turkey in 1915. When opened, the school had a kindergarten and two primary classes. In 1936 his excellence Karapet Nasessyan added four more primary classes. The school was renamed to “Shamilian-Tatigian” after Maecenas couple Shamilian and their son G. Tatigian granted money for renovating the school building in 1936.
