Vatican chief monument to the Armenian saint is a marble sculpture height of 5.7 meters and weighing more than 26 tons. Author - French sculptor Khachik Ghazanchyan. The statue was opened and consecrated by Pope John Paul II on January 19, 2005. The opening ceremony of the statue of Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Catholic participated Patriarch Nerses Bedros XIX of Cilicia Tamruni. Installation of the monument was dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of Christianity in Armenia. The sculpture is located in the northern courtyard of the Vatican, in one of the exterior niches of St. Peter's.
