The Armenian College, as it is commonly known, was founded in 1821 and is the oldest standing educational institution in Kolkata. It was established by with the support of benefactors Astvatsatur Muradkhanian and Mnatsakan Vartanian. In 1828, the Araratian Library was added, which boasted one of the most extensive collections of Armenian books and ancient manuscripts in the world. Unfortunately, most of this rich collection is now lost.
