The construction of the museum was started in 1993 and four years later it was completed. The grand opening was in March 1998. On the first level of the museum one can find an exhibition of various relics such as crosses, cups and church vestments. On the second floor there is a bibliographical hall where ancient Armenian handwritings and rare books are exposed including the first Armenian typed bible of Voskan Vardapet published in Amsterdam in 1666. The third floor is for Armenian contemporary artists’ and sculptors’ works. The museum is open from 10:00 – 17:00 from Monday – Saturday and from 10:00 – 13:00 on Sunday.
