60 Hill St, Singapore 179366
Built in 1835, the Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator is the oldest standing building in Singapore. The construction of the church was funded by the small Armenian community of Singapore – that back then included less than 50 people – and by the Armenians of India. The church was designed and built by well-known Irish architect, George Coleman, and is considered to be his most famous masterpiece. It is surrounded by landscaped tropical gardens with a small cemetery, where prominent Armenians of Singapore have been laid to rest. The last service in the church was conducted in the 1930s. At present, it is not an active parish.
