14001 Armenian Quarter, Old City Jerusalem 91141, (02) 628-23-31
The Museum of Armenian Art and History is located in the Armenian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, in the building that was once called “Chamtagh” and housed the seminary of the Armenian Patriarchate. About 20 years ago, Armenian philanthropists Edward and Helen Mardigian came to the aid of the building, which was under the threat of demolition. Due to their efforts and generosity, “Chamtagh” was converted into a museum, considered one of the most important cultural centers of the Armenian Diaspora. Its unique exhibits include historical artifacts, antique rugs, metal works, coins and even a few banknotes issued by the first Armenian Republic.
