Georgi Karakhanyan looks to be crowned first-ever WSOF champ

Georgi Karakhanyan will have a shot at being crowned as the first-ever World Series of Fighting featherweight title when he takes on Lance Palmer on Saturday Dec. 7.

The MMA bout will be the televised WSOF 7 main event on NBC Sports Network.

In September, Karakhanyan made his WSOF debut in victorious fashion when he defeated Waylon Lowe at the WSOF 5 via first round submission. Karakhanyan, a featherweight who trains out of Millenia MMA, extended his winning streak to eight.

Karakhanyan (22-3-1) has fought on such promotions as Tachi Palace Fights (where he won a title), Bellator, BAMMA, DREAM and Legacy FC

Today the promotion revealed the prize for which they'll be competing. Custom-designed by A.J. LaFons, the World Series of Fighting championship belt features more than 43 carats of genuine ruby, diamond, emerald, sapphire and red garnet and weighs in at a total of 10 pounds, 7 ounces. The two-tone effect on the plates was accomplished by nickel-plating each layer of the details before gold-plating the highlights by hand.

"We wanted to make sure our championship belt was reflective of our commitment to excellence," World Series of Fighting President Way Sefo said. "We've been working in the background for more than a year on the design of this belt, and we feel like we got it right. On Saturday night, I feel confident that either Josh Burkman or Steve Carl will be proud of the belt they receive as recognition of their accomplishment as our first-ever welterweight champion."

The 10-bout lineup for World Series of Fighting's first-ever Canadian fight card is complete with the addition of four new preliminary bouts, including middleweights David "Showtime" Perron (5-2) vs. Matt "The Riotmaker" Baker (9-4), welterweights Ryan Chiappe (10-8) vs. Marcus "Ossoduro" Vinicius (9-7), lightweights Dan Ring (5-1-1) vs. Myles "The Cowboy" Merola (10-7) and middleweights Micah "Mitey" Brakefield (3-1) vs. Brendan Kornberger (3-0).

All four bouts take place on the preliminary card of "World Series of Fighting 7: Karakhanyan vs. Palmer," which streams live on www.wsof.com starting at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT on Dec. 7 at PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The night's main card airs on NBCSN at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT following prelims.

Tickets for World Series of Fighting 7, which start at just $29, are available at TicketLeader.ca.
