The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist is located in the eighth district of Paris, close to Alma Square. It was built in 1904, under the patronage of Russian oil magnate, Alexander Mantashev (Mantashyants). Mantashev spent 1,540,000 francs on its construction. For his generosity, President Emile Loubet awarded Mantashev the Order of the Legion of Honor. The revered Armenian general Andranik Ozanian got married at St. Hovhannes Mkrtich Cathedral in 1922.
