Le monument de Komitas Place du Canada, 75008 Paris, France
In 1978, the Armenian community of Paris applied to the city for permission to build a memorial statue to honor the great Armenian composer and musicologist Komitas, as well as victims of the Genocide. Permission was granted that same year, but the project was in a limbo for more than twenty years. The project finally commenced in 2001, once France officially recognized the Armenian Genocide of 1915. The monument, designed by the famous Armenian architect and artist, David Yerevantsi, was opened on April 24, 2003. It is located near Course Albert, in the prestigious eighth district of Paris, which is also home to Elysée Palace and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In 2009, a small park adjacent to the monument was renamed Yerevan Garden.
