The monument to the pilot and Soviet Union’s twice hero Nelson Stepanian was installed in Kaliningrad in 1995. The monument had a hard life. At first it was installed in Liepaja city in Latvia where Nelson Stepanian fighting as the commander of “Ilov” team was hit and died. After Soviet Union breakup and soviet army’s leaving Latvia the heads of the country demanded to take the bust with them as well. As a result the bust was moved to Kaliningrad and was installed not far from Baltic naval academy after F. Ushakov and is situated there till today.
