Armanitola Rd, Dhaka City, Bangladesh
The Armenian community of Dhaka, which emerged in the 18th century, was mainly engaged in trade. Due to the success of Armenian businessmen, which strengthened the state's economy, Mughal Emperor Akbar I the Great allowed Armenians to freely practice their religion. The Armenian community of Bengal raised the funds for the construction of the church. It was built in 1781 on the site of an old wooden chapel. It was consecrated by Bishop Yeprem, who later became the Catholicos of All Armenians, Yeprem I Dzoragehtsi. Today, the the church is one of the oldest buildings in Dhaka. There is no longer an Armenian community in Dhaka, so the church does not have a resident pastor. The Armenian Archbishop from Australia comes here twice a year to conduct mass.
