Rotenturmstraße 14, 1010 Wien, Austria
Cafe Daniel Moser, located in the heart of the Austrian capital, is one the first coffee houses in Europe! It was established in 1685 by an Armenian merchant from Turkey named Johannes Diodato (Hovhannes Astvatsatur). In the cafe, that now bears the name of then-mayor of Vienna, Daniel Moser, Diodato’s memory is still honored. There is a bronze plaque on the wall near the bar with a brief history of the cafe. It tells the story of Diodato’s arrival in Austria, and how he obtained exclusive rights to open a coffee establishment and founded it on that very location: the oldest cafe in Vienna. The menu includes mostly Italian-style coffee and light meals, such as sandwiches.
