FC Shirak to play MLS' Galaxy in friendly

Shirak Football Club will play a friendly match in the United States against the Los Angeles Galaxy of Major League Soccer on Saturday, Feb. 8.

The Gyumri-based club team and Armenian Premier League champion will play Landon Donovan and company at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

MLS has produced such Armenian soccer players such as Yura Movsisyan, Alecko Eskandarian and Harout Karapetyan. Eskandarian (2009-2010) and Karapetyan (1996-1998) both played for the Galaxy.

Karapetyan holds the record for fastest hat-trick in MLS history. As a substitute, he scored three goals in five minutes in 1998 while playing for the Galaxy.

As a member of Real Salt Lake, Movsisyan bested David Beckham's LA Galaxy for the 2009 MLS Cup. The game proved to be Movsisyan's last in the MLS. Shortly thereafter, he transfered to Denmark's FC Randers.

The StubHub Center (formerly known as the Home Depot Center), has a capacity of 27 thousand and a large Armenian contingency is expected for the match.
