Women's Rights Center says 'No To Domestic Violence'

The Women's Rights Center (WRC) along with notable Armenian celebrities have joined efforts and created a video that brings light to a critical health issue affecting about 36% of women and children in Armenia: domestic violence.

“No To Domestic Violence” can be viewed (with English subtitles) here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeJlekcNGv0

The video included such guests as Arsen Julfalakyan, Armenia’s 2012 Olympic Wrestling Champion, and Armenia’s Grandmaster Chess Champions, Tigran Petrosian and Gabriel Sargsyan.

The Women’s Rights Center (WRC) is a Yerevan-based, non-governmental organization established in 1991 as a “Hayuhi” non- governmental organization and was renamed into Women’s Right Center in 1997. One of its goals is to increase awareness about domestic violence and to help victims of domestic violence rebuild their lives.

The WRC will be implementing a fundraising campaign in the coming weeks to raise money necessary for safe shelters for women and their children in Yerevan. In addition, the WRC is planning on opening ten regional Crises Centers for women that live in the rural areas of Armenia. The monthly cost to operate the regional Crises Centers and provide this free shelter, along with legal services, social services and rehabilitation services is about $20,000.
