Any plans for spring 2016 in Armenia?

From IT, innovative, technological events like “Armrobotics” to tasty “Uduli”dolma festival, from “Aurora prize for awakening humanity”to “Nobel days in Yerevan” this spring will be filled with a great variety of events for people of every taste, education and interest.

1. “Nobel days in Yerevan”

From April 11 through April 16, 2016 Yerevan State Medical University will host five Nobel Laureates in the frames of a unique scientific event “Nobel days in Yerevan”. The event is an opportunity for the experienced and young scientists, as well as for students of the region, to interact and get to know outstanding personalities who have been awarded the highest prize for scientific achievements. Those who are writing a research project will have the opportunity to get valuable advice, new ideas from distinguished scientists that changed the world.

 

2. Aurora prize for awakening humanity

Even in the darkest hours, there are glimmers of light.

From April 22 through April 24, 2016 Academy Award-winning actor and humanitarian George Clooney, Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel together with the co-founders of 100 LIVES and the Aurora Prize Selection committee will honor the Aurora Prize finalists for their exceptional acts of humanity. It is a celebration of vigorous human spirit that survives mishaps and fights for the justice and peace. During the weekend of events most urgent and vital humanitarian issues will be discussed. The culmination of the events will be the inauguration of Aurora Prize.

 

3. Armenian Robotics Development Program

Since 2008 the Union of Information Technologies Enterprises (UITE) implements the Armenian Robotics Development and Support Program/ Armrobotics/. This year the 1st round will be held on March 26, 2016 in Mergelyan Institute. The targets of the project are to develop robotics in Armenia, to encourage the establishment of organizations in the field of robotics, as well as to increase the quality of technological education. ArmRobotics school clubs, Armrobotics Club, ArmRobotics competitions and ArmRobotics Lab- robotics laboratory will be carried out in the frames of the program.

4. Fish festival

On April 12, 2016, on Easter eve Abovyan city will host already traditional fish festival. It is a competition during which the participants will use their imagination and skills to prepare national and new dishes with fish. From ancient times fish dishes have been popular in Armenia. For example, the city of Van was  famous for herring, which also served means for trade. The festival will be accompanied with Armenian music, dances and presentation of works of art.

5. “Uduli” Dolma festival

On May 16, 2016 Sardarapat Memorial will host one of the most delicious festivals dedicated to the queen of Armenian traditional cuisine dolma. Appetizing ground beef, lamb and spices wrapped in luscious grape leaves will be introduced in 20 pavilions for the jury to decide the best dolma maker. Apart from tasting the yummy meal, visitors will also have the opportunity to enjoy a folk festival with national songs, dances and theatrical performances. The Dolma festival is aimed to reveal many cooking methods from oblivion as well as spread and make dolma more popular.

6. Artavazd Theatre Award

Artavazd Theatre Award will be held on March 27th on the World Theater Day. This year the Award Ceremony is dedicated to Hrachya Ghaplanyan’s 90th Anniversary. The award is given to the most distinguished theatrical works of the year. Artavazd includes the following categories: decent theatrical service, the best woman/ man actor, director, screenplay, the best musical formation, the best play, the best young actor/actress, the best youth performance and the best performance.

7. Armmono-One-man Show International Festival

From April 29 till May 2, 2016 will be held the International Theatre Festival “Armmono-2016”. This year the festival has a new headline “ARMMONO- OPERA”. The festival will host mono performances from Poland, the United States, Russia, Armenia among others. The festival is organized by the Theater Workers’ Union of Armenia with the assistance of Armenia’s Ministry of Culture.
